I was running around East London a lot last Fall looking for flats, and one day decided to extend my journey a bit farther to the site of the 2012 Olympic Park.  Rising out of a former industrial zone is the new Olympic stadium and the torch, as well as the velodrome, aquatics center, basketball arena, BMX track, and the Olympic village.  There has been a lot of debate on whether the London Olympic effort has a chance to break even let alone make any money for the city, which no one but the bidders ever seem to think remotely feasible, but I don't believe anyone can argue that some of these efforts will have a lasting effect on formerly blighted East London.  No one seems to be able to answer what one does with a velodrome once cycling ends, but the improved transport links and overall infrastructure improvements including significant park upgrades and landscaping enhancements will no doubt pay an ongoing dividend.  It’s part of East London’s overall rebirth of the last 10+ years and in part why I find the area so attractive myself. Now if I can just get some tickets…
